“Jackie Besteman’s bird portraits intrigue. Clearly, they are exquisitely executed and achieved. I am also a fan of her bold colour. Nevertheless, it is the power of the birds that haunt and stir. I am reminded of fairytales by Hans Christian Andersen and Oscar Wilde as well as Hitchcock’s terrifying film” Natasha Fraser Cavassoni Author of After Andy, Lou Lou de la Falaise, Sam Spiegel, Harold ( Pinter ), Monsieur Dior and Biyan.
Hello, World!
The mighty Great Horned Owl. It is a large, powerful bird of prey found across the Americas. Known for its feather tufts on its head that look like horns and are called plumicorns. They are actually not ears but serve as camouflage. Their actual ears on the side of the head. It has adapted to forests, deserts and cities. They have large yellow eyes and have night vision. Their necks can swivel up to 270 degrees. They eat animals as large as skunks as well as rabbits and rodents and birds. They use old nests left behind by cows, hawks or herons. They have a soft, hooting call.

About me
I have worked as an illustrator for many of years. Always drawn to the decorative and colour I became attracted to both birds and fashion along the way. I call birds natures fashionistas and they are a source of endless inspiration. Getting detailed likenesses as well as capturing the wildness of their beauty gives me a lot of satisfaction. Also learning more and more about birds is exciting.
I have recently started putting my bird illustrations on greeting cards, keychains, prints and stickers for all the bird lovers out there.
Over the years I have collected my own collection of meaningful greeting cards and I hope that my images will be enjoyed the same way.
